Private Practice: What’s in Store for Season 2!

by Jamie | September 5, 2008

Private Practice is coming back, and the cast shared a little info at the recent premiere party for the season-one DVD. Click in to find out where full-frontal nudity fits in and how the center of the show might be going, going, gone…

Practice Imperfect: According to Kate Walsh (Dr. Addison Montgomery), “There’s so much happening this season! There’s a lot more surgery. There’s lots of sex. We realize in the first episode that the practice has a little financial turmoil happening, which I think is actually topical in the state of our economy. I think a lot of people can identify and relate when you mortgage a place and then ‘Uh oh! How am I gonna pay for it?’ ”

Or, as Paul Adelstein (Cooper) put it, “The practice itself gets threatened. It might go under. The other thing that Shonda is trying to do is really get into some medical ethics issues that doctors and families have to deal with all the time. There are some really good storylines about that stuff.” I wonder if this means the new focus on medical mysteries will happen entirely outside of the wellness center, but in Dr. King’s (KaDee Strickland) domain of the hospital instead.

Nekkid! But never mind about all that messy medicine. Chris Lowell (Dell)—whom I always knew I loved—gave up the real goods on what to watch for this season: “Taye Diggs and full-frontal nudity. That’s all I can tell you. It just gets weird! I mean it’s really nice and intimidating—for the guys—to see. Taye’s a whole lot of man. And that’s it. No! Truthfully though, what you can expect from season two? There’s a lot of crisscrossing of relationships that you maybe didn’t expect and didn’t see last season; a lot of romances flaring up, and it’s going to be all over the board. It’s a web.”

Hmmm…about the relationships, and although he’s obviously kidding about Taye, I sure like the way he thinks!

B.A. (Before Addison): According to Amy Brenneman (Violet) the second-season premiere will happily fill in many of the gaps in our understanding of how these people met and came to work together. She said, “I was really happy with the initial episode of this season because I think it answers some questions that we all were asking, that we didn’t really have time to get in to last year about what kind of place this is and what they’re up against. Everyone gets these beautiful back stories.”

Scoop on Violet’s Past!

by Adam | September 3, 2008

Thanks to those folks over at TVGuide.com.

Private Practice actors are already promising steamy scenes and drama galore in Season 2, but for some characters, more than just skin will be revealed. As romantic and professional complications unfold, Dr. Violet Turner, for one, will be moving on from heartbreak just as new details about her back story come to light.

Violet’s biggest challenge in Season 2 will be dipping her toes into the dating scene while negotiating her personal history. “She’s just beginning to get out there and date, and she has a little sexual damage in her past,” Amy Brenneman told TVGuide.com about her alter-ego. “It’s this little back story that I got. For all the jokes about hopping in and out of bed, she’s got some real stuff. Which I love, because I think that’s realistic. It’s not easy all the time.”

But don’t expect Violet’s budding love life to happen from get-go: The start of the new season will see her smarting from the loss of Cooper Freedman. “All of my material last year was with Cooper, and I don’t have much material at all with him this year,” Brenneman said. “So I really feel the loss, the way Violet would. It’s like ‘Wow, I lost my dude.’ She is quite alone at the beginning of the season.”

At least up until episode nine, “trusting and getting out there” will be Violet’s primary hurdle, the actress explained.

And as for the other doctors and the gentle midwife? The practice faces financial trouble and more complex ethical issues than ever before when the show returns to ABC October 1.

Guest Star Casting Scoop!

by Jamie | September 2, 2008

Drewlowell_lThis just in: Sarah Drew’s career is on fire!

The in-demand Everwood grad is joining Private Practice for a multi-episode arc, sources confirm to me exclusively.

This comes just two weeks after Drew was cast as JoAnna Garcia’s BFF on The CW’s 90210 companion, Privileged. Combine that with her recurring as Salvatore’s beard on Mad Men, and, well, it bears repeating: Sarah Drew’s career is on fire!

No surprise, the gatekeepers over at Shondaland are keeping a tight lid on the specifics of Drew’s Practice stint, but this much I was able to glean from my moles: Drew is playing a patient, and she’ll be spending most of her time with Chris Lowell’s rookie midwife.

In other words, someone’s (most likely) having a baby.

Kate Walsh: Lots of Drama and Sex on Private Practice

by Jamie | August 26, 2008

Get ready to see Addison Montgomery’s wilder side when Private Practice returns for season 2 Oct. 1.

“There are some good lovers happening,” Kate Walsh tells PEOPLE of what’s in store for her character at a party Saturday night for Donald Trump’s latest project, Trump Tower Dubai. “There’s a lot of action in L.A. it turns out!”

Walsh, whose character was no stranger to love triangles when she was on Grey’s Anatomy, gets to be the center of all the attention this time around with Tim Daly’s Dr. Pete Wilder and new love interest, SWAT officer Kevin Nelson (played by Gilmore Girl’s hottie David Sutcliffe), vying for her heart.

So will Walsh let her husband of almost a year, Alex Young, watch those steamy scenes? “I don’t know. He’ll probably watch when I’m not home,” she says. But she promises not all the action will be between the sheets.

“I think you’re going to see some conflict within the practice itself too, and a lot more surgery, so it’s just very exciting,” she says. “The scripts are so good, there’s a lot of action, it’s a lot of drama….” And yes, of course, “a lot of sex!” –Jenny Sundel

Kate looking Gorgeous!

by Jamie | August 24, 2008

Private Practice star Kate Walsh rocks an olive number as she arrives at the Trump International Hotel and Tower Dubai party at The Tar Estate, Bel Air, Calif. on Saturday.

The 40-year-old actress will be opening up season 2 of Private Practice after being one of the highest rated new series for the Fall 2007 season. The first episode of 2008, A Family Thing, premieres on Oct. 1.

KaDee Strickland, who plays Charlotte King talked about the upcoming season, saying, “It just goes to show that life is very unpredictable, I think. The truth is that people end up in the most unlikely situations. I’m really thrilled!”
